The backwards film - 109 words

Memento (2000), directed by Christopher Nolan, follows Leonard Shelby. He has a memory problem and cannot remember new things. He tries to find the person who killed his wife. He uses notes, Polaroid photos and tattoos as his outside memory. The film is special because it goes backwards. Color scenes move from end to beginning while black and white parts move forward normally. This makes viewers feel the same confusion as Leonard. Nolan creates an experience where the audience shares Leonard's lost feeling. The thriller becomes a story about memory, identity and personal truth. It questions if we can trust our own life stories.
